THE SHEPHERD AND THE DOOR

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Jn.10:11-12

More Scriptures: Rom.10:10, Jn.10:1, Gen.12:2-3

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth and the sheep hear his voice and he calleth his own sheep by name and leadeth them out (Jn.10:1-3). Every time I read the Bible passage in John chapter 10 about the shepherd, I realize the importance of a door and how God has made me one. I also discover that I am the factor in the lives of my wife, children and sheepfold. I pray that the Person of the Holy Spirit will reveal your significance as the door in your sheepfold.so that you can make the most of your headship in your family kingdom.

Today, let me share with you some insights I got about the shepherd, the door and his sheep from Jn.10:11. Jesus said that He is the “door of the sheep” the same way you are the shepherd of your wife and children. What this means is that as soon as the sheep (wife and children) enters the sheepfold, the shepherd would mount guard at the entrance. This is what makes him an effective door. Secondly, because the shepherd has mounted guard as the door into his sheepfold, he keeps a close watch over the sheep. The implication of this is that you can hear even the faintest voice of your sheep. Consequently, nothing evil out there can enter and touch your sheep without first coming through you as the door to the sheepfold. As a door, you are able to determine who and what is permitted to enter into your sheepfold. This is your heritage.

But how do I ensure that I function as the good shepherd that Christ has made me? Firstly, you must accept the truth of God’s word into your heart that you are the shepherd and the door to your sheepfold. In Rom.10:10, the Scripture tells us that with the heart man believes but with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Rom.10:10). The word of God cannot do much in your life until you accept it. It is only when you accept that you are in indeed a shepherd and a door, that you can believe that you really are. Secondly, you must be willing to take personal responsibility for your position as the shepherd and the door. In verse 3 of Jn.10, the word of God says, To him the porter opens and the sheep hear his voice and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

You are the door, and your wife and children walk through you and when you call them, they must recognize your voice and be willing to be led by you. If this doesn’t happen, don’t blame your flock. Take responsibility and find out what you have allowed into your sheepfold that has corrupted your flock.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to take personal responsivity for my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the force of excuses and blame-game.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to lead my wife and children in Your ways always.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am the door to my sheepfold and I stand firmly against ungodly influences because that is what makes me the good and godly shepherd over my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
