Capsule 12: ROMANCE SPICES YOUR WIFE

And it came to pass when he had been there a long time that Abimelech, king of the Philistines looked out at a window and saw and behold Isaac sporting with Rebekah his wife. (Gen.26:8)

Until the Person of the Holy Spirit showed me this Scripture, I had believed that romance was worldly. But from the day I saw this truth from the Bible, my perspective changed, and I knew that romance is biblical and doing it with your wife is godly and righteous. Isaac had a loving engagement with his wife. Perhaps, he held her hands; maybe they chatted and laughed; may be Isaac put his hands around the neck of Rebekah. In whatever way Isaac romanced his wife, it indicates to you and me that we can also romance our wives.

What is romance? Romance is the actions or feelings of people who are in love especially behaviour which is very caring and affectionate. So, let me ask you these questions. Are you caring and affectionate with your wife? Do you express actions or feelings to your wife which suggests that you truly love her? Are you proud of your wife in public? Do you hug your wife? Do you plant kisses on her forehead? As the godly husbandman, do not let romance with your wife go out of fashion. Don’t let anyone make you feel that your wife is old fashion. You must not be afraid to express your love to your wife. If Isaac did it, you can also do it.

But for you to behave and display caring and affectionate actions and feelings to your wife, you must renew your mind by the word of God. This is very important because your mind controls your outward behaviour. What seest thou? (Jer.1:11). What picture do you have of your wife? Do you see her as a tool to satisfy your sexual need or a soul mate? Do you see your wife as a spent item or a useful vessel? Do you see your wife as a friend or a flatmate? How you see your wife will influence how you treat her (1Pet.3:7). Secondly, create time-outs for you and your wife-a time when you both walk together, go for dinner together, go on a vacation together, just spent time together from the busyness of life.

And as you enhance your romance with your wife, it strengthens your bond of friendship with her. It also boosts her self-confidence because showing her caring and affectionate behaviour assures her that she is still relevant to you today as she was in the past. Finally, it improves her self-worth as your helpmeet. So, please, don’t give satan a foothold in your sheepfold. Make your wife your valuable asset, romance her and reign as the good and godly husbandman.

FAITH CONFESSION

I show my affection and loving feeling to my wife openly and unashamedly because that is what makes me the good and godly husband to her in Jesus name. Amen.
