REMOVE THE WEED, KEEP THE GARDEN GREEN

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Eph.5:25-29

More Scriptures: 1Pet.3:7, Matt.19:5, Zech.4:6

In my previous accommodation, my family ensures that we weed the grasses and that the surrounding is clean. Sometimes, in addition to cutting the grasses, we also washed the external floors with water. When all of these are done, it was always a nice sight to behold and a good feeling. Does this speak to you as the good and godly husbandman?

Now, let me establish these truths and hope they will help you. If you had wanted a perfect wife from the beginning, you have made a mistake. She does not exist.  Your wife, just like you, has loads of past mistakes and weaknesses. So, it is suicidal to think that you will ever marry a finished wife. God did not design her that way and that is why He sent her to you to polish, cherish and nurture. And for this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh (Matt.19:5). The day you took your woman to become your lawful wedded wife is the day you assumed the responsibilities to be her pastor, priest, prophet, mentor, and teacher. So, beyond enjoying the status of the head, you must be prepared to engage yourself with the demands that come with the position of the husbandman.

So, how do I remove the weeds and keep my wife green? You do that by treating her according to knowledge. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life that your prayers be not hindered (1Pet.3:7). Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband, appreciates all our weaknesses, hence He continues to send us help through the Person of the Holy Spirit, to teach us and renew us. This is the sacrifice He made for you and that is what He wants you to do to your wife by loving her with her weakness. Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it (Eph.5:25).

But why would God want me to love my wife over and above her weakness, mistakes, and errors? The first is because you are her head and saviour (Eph.5:23). The second is because you need to help her overcome some wrong values she may have grown with. And you do this by teaching her the Word of God through your conduct and utterances and by praying the Word of God into her life (Eph.5:26).

That he (you) might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle or any such thing but that it should be holy and without blemish (Eph.5:27). When you have removed the weed, she becomes green and attractive, and God will reward you and there will be a crown of glory for you on the last day. Be the gardener! Make lushed green. That is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·        Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me an agent of positive change in the lives of my wife.

·        Father, in the Name of Jesus, give my wife the heart to receive my godly instructions.

·        Father, in the Name of Jesus, grant me wisdom on how to guide my wife unto all truth.

FAITH CONFESSION

I look not at the fault and weakness of my wife but unto the word of God that is able to transform her unto a virtuous woman because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
