OH LORD, GIVE ME UNDERSTANDING

I have come to discover that at the root of the inability of the husbandman to perform his covenant responsibilities as the good and godly man, husband and father is ignorance or lack of understanding. Many husbandmen have knowledge about their positions as men, husbands and fathers but lack understanding of what they need to do and why they should do it. Consequently, a lot of shepherds misbehave and act in ways that is unbecoming of their godly headship, and these attitudes continue to impact negatively on the health and prosperity of their sheepfold.

So, today, I want to share with you why you need understanding and the prayer to pray.

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me, give me understanding that I may learn thy commandments (Ps.119:73). As the head of the family, you need understanding of your covenant responsibilities towards your wife and children. And the ability to understand comes from God by the Holy Spirit. The Bible says, wisdom is the principal thing, and in all your getting get understanding (Pro.3:5). The Book of Daniel tells us that, God gave Daniel understanding in all things…….(Dan.1:17). You must engage the force of prayer and fasting to access deeper understanding of what God demands from you as the head of the family.

But why do I need understanding? When you understand why God made you the head of the family, you will be excited to do what He commands you to do. This means that you do not struggle to give to your wife and children, nor struggle to love your wife as Christ loved the Church. You do not consider your responsibilities as the good and godly man, husband and father as a burden rather you celebrate the opportunity God has given to you to be the head indeed. Secondly, you are continually challenged to become better at being the good and godly leader indeed. Every day, when you wake up, you desire to become better than who you were yesterday to your wife and children. You seek ways of improving your life and relationship with your wife and children. This motivates you to learn from good and godly examples, read Spirit-filled books and give attention to the instructions from the Word of God. For the path of the just man is like a shining light that shineth brighter and brighter unto a perfect day (Pro.4:18). Thirdly, you become the godly example to other husbandmen in conduct, utterances and attitude.

You must understand that you cannot become the good and godly man, husband and father without the help of God, through the Person of the Holy Spirit. This is because by strength shall no man prevail. God fashioned you to become the good and godly man, husband and father. He has empowered you to function successfully as the good and godly husbandman. For it is God which worketh in you, both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Philp.2:13). Seek God today and He will come through for you so that you can become all that He wants you to be to yourself, your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·        Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of grace and supplication to pray as You would want me to.

·        Father, in the Name of Jesus, hear me when I call on You for grace and help.

·        Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to function successfully as the good and godly husbandman to my wife and children.
