Main Scriptures: Ex.6:29-30
More Scriptures: Ezk.2:2, Heb.11:3, Pro.18:21
That the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, I am the Lord: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee. And Moses said before the Lord, behold, I AM OF UNCIRCUMCISED LIPS and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me? Ex.6:29-30
Let me begin by saying that the first virtue of the good and godly husbandman is circumcised lips. More often than not, the root cause of the challenges the husbandman has with his wife and children is the kind of words that proceed from his mouth. You may not have physically assaulted your sheep, but the words you speak to them kill them. Many husbandmen assume that it doesn’t matter what they say to their sheep. But the word of God tells us otherwise.
Firstly, the power of life and death is in the tongue (Pro.18:21). Your words can be weapons of destruction or instruments of upliftment. Do you abuse your sheep with your words? Do your words pierce their hearts and hurt their emotional being? Do your words destroy their self-esteem? Or do your words motivate, inspire and empower your wife and children? Are your words graceful and full of hope for your wife and children? The choice is yours. Secondly, thou shalt eat the fruits of his lips (Pro.13:2). The wrongs words you speak to your wife and children do not only hurt them, the words return to you as fruits. You insult your wife and children. You call them names like stupid, foolish, dirty, animal and the likes. Do not expect to get anything different from them. If you call them foolish, you will reap bag load of foolish responses from your wife and children. If you call them stupid, they will act very stupidly to you. If you degrade your wife by the caustic words from your mouth, you have not treated her with knowledge (1Pet.3:7).
But why are your words so powerful and very important determinant weapon in the molding and shaping of your wife, children and the sheepfold? Jesus gives you and I the answer. The words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life (Jn.6:63). Inside your words is the spirit that makes your spoken words to happen. And because your wife and children are spirit being, your words first connect with their spirits before it manifests on the outside. The Scripture has this truth to tell you and I about our words. You are ensnared by the words of your mouth (Pro.6:2). Your words will be judged and can create or undo anyone or circumstances, particularly your wife and children. In Heb.11, the Bible tells us that the world was framed by the word of God (Heb.11:3). The responses and reactions, whether positive or negative, that you are getting from your wife and children today are the product of the words you spoke to them yesterday.
So, how do I ensure that my words are fit and proper and graceful when I speak them to my wife and children?
