And the Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. (Gen.2:15-17)
Yesterday, as good and godly husbandmen, we learnt the importance of watching over our sheep with all diligence because our sheep are valuable assets in the sight of God. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, that you shall not be careless in your leadership role and responsibilities over your wife and children.
What more can you do to diligently watch over God’s assets in your custody? You must wear the garment of humility. This is very important because your humility of heart is what gives you access to the grace of God that empowers you to do what is right and be opened to correction, accept your mistakes, turn away from it and make positive changes for the better. It is that attitude that makes you recognize that you can be corrected by your wife, children and those around you. It is true that you are the authority in your home. It is also true that you are the head of your family. But you must appreciate the truth that you have a higher authority in Jesus Christ. That is, you are also a man under authority.
You must also watch over them with the weapon of prayer and fasting (Mk.9:27-29). Praying for your wife and children that Christ will be formed in them is what provides the protective hedge that they need against satan, sin and the world. Prayer is a spiritual weapon of warfare. The word of God has this to say in this regards. My little children, of whom I travail in birth until Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:19). Your wife and children are spirits and they have souls and live in the body. And God wants you to watch over these dimensions of their person because His desire for them is that they prosper (spirit) and be in health (body) even as their soul prospers (soul) (3Jn.:2). And prayer is the weapon to secure them from the desires and appetites of satan, sin and the world.
God wants you to be accountably-responsible for the lives of your wife and children. He wants you to watch over them with the whole of your spirit, soul, body and might. You must brace up to be that diligent watchman because that is your heritage as the good and godly husbandman.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to turn my wife and children in the direction that pleases You.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of humility.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of grace of supplication, praying for my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give myself to praying for my wife and children as a lifestyle until Christ is formed in them because that is what makes me the good and godly watchman in Jesus name. Amen.
