HOW LIFE-GIVING ARE YOUR WORDS?

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Pro.10:11

More Scriptures: 2Tim.2:15, Jn.6:63, Col.3:16

The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain, the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions (Pro.10:11).

How rich and healthy are your words toward your wife, children and people around you? This is so important because as the head of the family, the words you speak in the direction of your sheep can either lift them up or destroy them. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman reaffirms how powerful your words could be. Don’t forget that you are like Jesus Christ to your wife and children. The words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life (Jn.6:63). This is why you must be very careful what you say. If you have observed the way the herdsmen lead their flock, you will notice that they use more of their voice to communicate to their herds. It is true that your wife or children may have offended you. It may be also true that they are living below your expectation. Notwithstanding all their obvious weaknesses, please order your words aright. Let your words be life-giving fountain to them.

But for you to speak life-giving and not deadly words to your wife and children, you must have abundance of the word of God in your heart and not in your head. The Bible has this to say about it. Let the word of God dwell richly in you (Col.3:16). And according to the word of God, you speak out of the deposit of the word of God in your heart. The more you feed and fill your heart with the word of God, the more your mouth draws from it. You must also engage the weapon of prayer to bring your body, including your tongue under control. Prayer is not just a platform for you to ask the Lord for material blessings. You can also ask for the empowerment of the spirit of Jesus to tame your tongue. The word of God warns that we should not allow anger to lead us to sin. Self control is one of the virtues of the Holy Spirit, so you need so much of it at work in your life as the leader of your wife and children. When you speak life-giving words to your wife and children, you engender hope and confidence in them. You serve as the pillar they can rely on. And at the end of the day, they will give you peace of mind and you will find rest to your spirit, soul and body.
