Bible Texts: Lk.22:26-27, Jn.10:14-16, Heb.13:20, Is.40:11, Gen.2:15-18, 1Cor.13:4-8, 1Pet.3:7-9, Ps.23:2, Gal.4:19, 1Tim.5:7-8, Ezk.34:23
But ye shall not be so, but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as HE THAT SERVETH (Lk.22:26-27).
Yesterday, by the help of the Holy Spirit, we understand that every husbandman who desires to be great in the lives of his wife and children and sheepfold must truly be a servant to his sheep. We also understand from Scriptures that the office of the husbandman is not a right but a privilege that God gives. This is because God Himself created the office (Gen.2:14-18, Matt.19:5, Mal.2:14). Furthermore, God also created the husbandman to occupy the office (Ps.100:3). So, you and I must continually give thanks to God for making us husbandmen and by grace of election good and godly husbandmen.
You must understand that the office of the husband-hood comes with responsibilities. These responsibilities include spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, financial, and so much more. As the husbandman, the only way anyone can measure and assess if you are indeed the good and godly husbandman is the things they see you do and the fruits you bear in the lives of your wife and children and the world around you. There are so many things that God has ordained that you must do to your wife and children. After God made the first family and handed over to him his wife, Eve, He did not just allow him to roam the street without any form of commitment. God said to him in Genesis chapter 2 and verses 15 to 18, that he should, tend and dress the Garden. That is work! That is responsibility! That is productive engagement of the spirit, mind, and hand. God has not changed. What He commanded the first husbandman to do in Gen.2:15 is still what He is saying to you today. Take up your responsibilities and execute them.
But why must I take up the responsibilities that come with being the good and godly husbandman?
Whenever you take up your responsibilities in your sheepfold, it helps you to grow and develop. It also helps you to become a matured leader. For instance, if you take up the responsibility to provide spiritual support for your wife and children, it also accelerates your own personal spiritual growth and development. This means that you will give more time to studying the Bible, to prayers and intercession and other spiritual exercises. And as you explore the Word of God for the benefits of your wife and children, you will also discover that you are indirectly building up your most holy faith (Jude verse 20-21).
Secondly, taking up your responsibilities pleases God and makes your honourable in His sight. There are so many opportunities that God cannot commit into your hands if you have not demonstrated enough capacity to take up your family responsibilities (1Tim.5:7-8, Ps.23:1, Gal.4:19, 1Cor.13:4-8, 1Tim.3:1-5, Eph.6:4, Deut.6:7-10, Num.6:22-24. Please study these Bible passages, intensely. It will help you understand your God ordained responsibilities as the good and godly husbandman).
There is so much that God has empowered you to do. You must rise up and take up the responsibilities joyfully and in faith because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
