LIVE AND MIND THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT (1)

Bible Texts: Rom.8:5-6, Gal.6:8, Jn.3:6, 1Cor.2:14, Mk.9:29, Lk.18:1, Ps.24:1, Rom.6:1, Ps.1:1-3, Jn.4:24

Before we start today’s teaching, I want to establish some truth from the word of God about being the good and godly husbandman. The first is that it is takes a spiritually sound husbandman to become the good and godly shepherd. And secondly, satan is and always interested in stealing the knowledge of the truth in the life of the husbandman. If the husbandman understands these truths and take his place in the WORD, he will function as the good and godly shepherd.

So, today I want to share with us the secret of living a triumphant life as the good and godly man, husband and father.

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God (Rom.8:5-8).

From the above Bible passage, two things are evident. The first is those who mind the things of the flesh, carnally minded. The second is those who mind the things of the spirit, spiritually minded. But of the two lives to live, only those who are spiritually minded and are ruled by the Spirit of God enjoy life and peace. That is the secret to live a triumphant life as the husbandman- to be ruled by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. When you allow the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus to rule your life, you will be careful what you do, say and the places you go. The will of God for you as the good and godly husbandman is to grow spiritually. God wants your spirit-man to be healthy and fruitful. He doesn’t want you to live after the flesh. As the husbandman, it is very important for you to take your spiritual life very seriously.

A lot of husbandmen have become so carnally minded that they have lost grip of their family’s spiritual heritage. You must understand that your office as the husbandman has its origin in spirituality. God created that office and the Scriptures say that God is Spirit and those that must do His bidding must do it in truth and in spirit (Jn.4:24). Carnality has led to both physical and emotional death of many husbandmen. Carnality has made many husbandmen to compromise on their stand on what is godly and righteous. Carnality has made many husbandmen to lose their authority and power. You must not live in the realm.

But what does it mean to live by the law of the Spirit of God as the husbandman? It means your life is being ruled by the things of the Spirit, beginning and fundamentally by the Word of God. Your thoughts, actions, conduct and decision towards your wife and children is and must be influenced, guided and determined by what the word of God says. It also means you honour God and His word above your feeling and circumstances.

I subject my thoughts, conduct, actions, decisions, will and emotions to the influence of the law of the Spirit of Jesus Christ because that is what gives life to me as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
