GROWING UNTO MATURITY, BECOMING THE GODLY HUSBANDMAN (2)

Bible Texts: Ps.37:36-37, Gen.17:1, Eph.6:4, Matt.22:37, Gen.18:19, Eph.5:25, 1Cor.14:20, 1Cor.13:11, Col.3:19, Gal.4:19

Yet he passed away, and lo, he was not, yea, I sought him but he could not be found. MARK THE PERFECT MAN, and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace (Ps.37:37).

Yesterday, we started off by establishing the perfect will of God for every husbandman, and that is for the husbandman to grow up in thought, responsibility, conduct and action. God doesn’t want the husbandman to continue to act like a child.

But how do I become the matured husbandman?

For you to grow and develop into maturity as you lead your wife and children, you must take personal responsibility by taking these steps.

Firstly, you must grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ for you and your wife and children. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me (Jn.5:39) NIV. In Joshua chapter 1, you will see why you must seek the knowledge of God in order to become the good and godly husbandman. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Jos.1:8) NIV. God has provided you with the Bible. The Bible contains the information that will assist you know what to do and the decisions to take that will please God and your wife and children.

Secondly, you must daily examine yourself if you are still in line with the principles of Scripture. The Scripture says, examine yourself, consider your ways if thou art still in the faith (2Cor.13:2).  The best form of examination and evaluation is self evaluation. Ask yourself some hard questions about how you have acted and conducted yourself as the man, husband and father. Do you think your action, conduct, thoughts and behaviour are consistent with the model Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, gave to you from His word? Speak truth to yourself.

And finally, you contend in prayers and fasting so that the word of God will richly dwell in you and the nature of Christ will be formed in you (Gal.4:19). There is a kind that goeth not forth except by prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29). Through the forces of prayer and fasting, God empowers you destroy every ungodly character that may want to hinder you from acting in line with God’s instructions and empower you to act as the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for my childish attitude and conduct in my life and towards my wife and children.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to always conduct my life and to align my thoughts and action to Your word.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am conducting myself, my actions and my relationship with my wife, children and in the market place of life according to the instructions and commandments of God because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
