Bible Texts: Gen.1:26-28, Gen.2:21-25, Gen.2:5-8, Gen.2:16, Gen.2:18-24, Ps.24:1-2, Heb.11:6, Lk.18:1, Gal.4:19, Eph.6:4, 1Tim.3:2-4, Eph.5:25, Matt.19:4-6, 3Jn.1:2, Gal.4:19, Mk.9:29
Yesterday, we asked the question who is the godly man, after we understood and explored the characteristics of a man and the man. Note the difference. You have a man, the man and the godly man.
Today let us answer the question of who the godly man is from the word of God.
The godly man is that man who has been able to do all that the man will do and goes further to strengthen his works by a quality relationship with God through Jesus Christ. So, what makes the godly man different from a man and the man is the God factor. God wants you and I to have a quality relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus Christ and the Person of the Holy Spirit. It is God’s desire and perfect will for you and me.
But why does God want me to function as the godly man?
It is because you are made in the image and likeness of God.
And God said, let us make man in our image and in our own likeness (Gen.1:28)
Secondly, you are God’s first creation according to Gen.2:21-25. Every other thing that exists was spoken into existence (Gen.1:3-15). You are the only creature that God molded and breathe His life into and you became a living soul. So, you carry the nature of God.
It is for the reasons given above that God wants a deeper fellowship with you. God wants to manifest Himself, His nature and person to your wife, children and in the market place of life through your life by the quality of your relationship with Him (Gen.12:1-3, Matt.5:14-16, Acts 1:1).
Now and from the teaching of yesterday and today, are you a man, the man or the godly man?
For you to become the godly man, there are biblical demands that you must subscribe to. The first is that you must have a personal relationship with the Person of Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. So, new birth is the starting point (Jn.3:2-5). The second is that you must give attention to the word of God by studying it, meditating on it and acting on it (Jos.1:8, Acts 1:1, 2Tim.2:15). The third is that you must make prayer your lifestyle (Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19). Prayer is a form of worship; hence whenever you come to God in prayers, you are actually worshiping Him. And that is how you gain access into His presence to draw wisdom, strength and courage to be the godly man.
And as you give yourself to the demands of the Bible, you will grow and be established as the good and godly husbandman.
