THE FOUNDATION OF SELF-DISCIPLINE FOR THE HUSBANDMAN (2)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Pet.1:13-16, Job 22:21, Acts 1:1, Heb.12:1-3, Matt.6:22, Mk.9:29, Lk.6:45, Jn.2:5, Jas.4:7, 2Cor.5:14, Jn.14:26, Rom.12:1-2, Jn.5:39

Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct , because it is written, be holy, for I am holy (1Pet.1:13-16)

Yesterday, we began this teaching series by establishing that the first step to laying the foundation of self discipline is for you to guard and protect what goes into our hearts because what goes into our hearts is a seed and therefore influences our thoughts, actions and conduct, either in a good and godly manner or in an ungodly way.

Today, let us consider the next building block for self discipline for the husbandman.

It is for him to conduct himself in holiness as commanded by the word of God.

But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct (1Pet.1:15)

God who made you the husbandman is holy and because you are made in His image and likeness, you have the seed of holiness in you (Gen.1:26-28). This means that you must be holy by conducting your affairs in obedience to what God commands for you as the man, husband and father. This is why the word of Christ to you and I is this.

Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven (Matt.5:14)

Your existence as the husbandman is to bring glory to God and the way you prove that is by your good works in holiness and righteousness. This is the foundation block for you.

In order for you to guard your conduct so that you do what is right in line with the Word of God, you must desire and pursue after holiness (Dan.1:8, Ps.42:1). Secondly, you must allow the love of Christ to rein supreme in your heart so that it can influence how you conduct yourself in a manner that pleases God (Rom.5:5). Thirdly, you must pray for the continuous release of the spirit of holiness upon your life because holiness is a spiritual virtue and is available to anyone who asks for it in prayers (Rom.1:4, Matt.7:7).

You have a glorious destiny on earth and with Jesus Christ. Your existence is to make a positive difference in the lives of your wife, children and in the marketplace. You are a trans-generational agent of blessing (Gen.12:2). Start laying a good foundation of self discipline even today because it is the only way you can become the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with a fresh desire and zeal for holy living.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the spirit of holiness.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live a holy life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I lay the foundation of holiness and I live in holiness in all my conduct as I lead myself, wife and children and in the marketplace because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
