Bible Texts: Tit.1:7-10, Jas.3:3-12, Ps.19:14, Lk.12:15, Col.4:6, Matt.5:13-14, Ps.24:3-4, 1Cor.9:27, 1Tim.3:1-6, Matt.5:37
If you and I must make the most of our leadership as husbandmen, we must not only set good and godly examples for our wife, children and others to follow, we must also be the example for them see. This is because everything rises and falls on leadership.
Now read the word of the Lord in Titus chapter 1 and verses 7 to 8.
In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works, in doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned, that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you (Tit.1:7-8)
The Scripture says that in all things, you should be a pattern of good works. And the good works are reflected in righteousness, honesty, sound speech and truthfulness. As the husbandman, God wants you to conduct yourself and relate with your wife, children and others as Jesus Christ would because you are the ambassador of Christ. You must not only teach them, you must be the example of what you teach (Matt.5:14-16).
Now as the husbandman, what are the areas God wants you to be a pattern of good works to the end that you live and continue to live as the good and godly husbandman?
God wants you to be a pattern of holiness and purity in all that you think and do.
In doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech……(Tit.1:7b)
Living a holy and a righteous life is the gateway to proving that you are the good and godly husbandman. Jesus Christ is holy, and because you have His life in you, you can live a life of purity, honesty and faithfulness in all your dealings (Ps.24:3-4). God also wants you to exercise self control over your appetite for food, sex, position and power, money and other material things (Lk.12:15, 1Cor.9:27).
Let your yea be yea and nay be nay (Matt.5:37)
God also wants you to be a pattern of honesty by saying what you mean and meaning what you say in truth and not in deceitfulness.
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man (Col.4:6)
Finally, God wants you to be an example of sound speech filled with grace and blessings and not cursing and insults. As the good and godly husbandman, you must learn to bring your tongue under control so that it speaks only words of wisdom, faith and hope rather than curses, abuses and doubt (Jas.3:2-12).
God has made you in His image and likeness. He has given Jesus Christ to you as the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman. You must now look to Jesus Christ and His word to become like Him as you lead yourself as the man, husband and father because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
Hallelujah!
