HUNGER AND THIRST AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Matt.5:6, 2Tim.2:19-21, Is.51:1-2, Gal.3:13, 2Cor.9:8, 2Cor.5:17, Gal.4:19, Pro.14:13, Ps.34:15, Ps.1:1-3, Ps.51:9-11, Gen.18:19

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matt.5:6)

God wants you to thirst after righteousness. God wants you to do what is right in line with His commandments. He wants you to pursue after righteousness. This is because you are blessed when you do what is right according to the word of God.

As the husbandman, you must understand that what you thirst after determines how much you are willing to give to quench the thirst. And to that extent you must pursue righteousness and live your life to please God in all things. Every day when you wake up, you must desire to do what is right and abound unto good works.

In Is.51:1-2, the Word of God says this.

Hearken to me, ye that FOLLOW AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, ye that seek the Lord, look unto the rock whence ye are hewn and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bare you…….(Is.51:1-2)

Abraham was a husbandman like you and I. But one thing that distinguishes him is his righteous walk with God (Gen.18:19). And by redemption you and I have become the seeds of Abraham (Gal.3:10-13). Your hallmark as the husbandman is holiness and righteousness.

But how do I thirst after what is right?

Ye must be born again (Jn.3:7)

You must have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ by confessing your sins, repenting of them and accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal saviour.

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new (2Cor.5:17)

You must work to maintain your relationship with Jesus Christ by a change in the way you think, talk, and conduct yourself (Matt.5:14-16).

You must also be honest before God by telling Him the area of your life where you need His help. As you tell God those areas of your life that you are struggling with and allow the word of God to fill your heart, your old life of sin will fade away and a new man will be born in you (Matt.11:28-30, Rom.12:2).

Doing what the Scriptures command and instruct you to do as the man, husband and father is not only your pathway to a world of peace, joy and eternal life, it also guarantees your physical and mental well-being. Therefore, thirst after righteousness!
