Bible Texts: Eph.5:1-2, Rom.5:5, Gal.4:19, Philp.2:13, Ps.1:1-3, Jos.1:6-8, Eph.5:25, Deut.28:1, Jn.3:7, Acts 1:1, 2Cor.5:17, Eph.1:18-19
Yesterday, we discovered from Scripture that the journey of the husbandman to becoming a good and godly man, husband, and father is a walk of faith in God and His word. Today, let us consider another virtue required of the husbandman if he must be like Jesus Christ. That virtue is the love of Christ. The greatest weapon that empowers the husbandman to be like Jesus Christ is the love of Christ that is in his heart and at work in his life.
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children, and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling savor (Eph.5:1-2)
The love of Christ enables you to see with the lens of Christ. This means that before you do anything, you consider how Christ will do it. The love of Christ must not only be in your heart, but it must also greatly influence your thought life, actions, conduct, and reactions, making you into the good and godly man, husband, and father. When you walk in the love of Christ, it restrains you from taking actions that are against the perfect will of God for you as the good and godly husbandman. The love of Christ empowers you to behave like Christ in your conduct, thinking, and responses. The love of Christ makes it easier for you to forgive and forget when you are hurt. It also makes you live a sacrificial life. The love of Christ makes you think of others first, even before thinking of yourself. It also empowers you to always look out for the good and improvement of others whether they deserve it or not. That is how powerful the love of Christ is in the life of the husbandman.
How do I then walk in the love of Christ?
The first step is to invite Jesus Christ into your life by praying the prayer of salvation (Jn.3:7). The second step is for you to build on the first invitation by studying your Bible, meditating on the words of Jesus Christ and joining a bible believing church where your spirit man will be nourished (Jos.1:6-8, Ps.1:1-3, 2Cor.5:17). The third step is for you to pray the character of Jesus Christ into your life (Gal.4:19, Philp.2:13). Finally, you take action by practicing what the Bible commands you to do in truth (Deut.28:1-2, Acts 1:1).
As the husbandman, you are made in the image and likeness of Christ (Gen.1:26-28). God wants you to be His true representative on earth, beginning in your home. God wants you to walk in love of Christ because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
Hallelujah!
