BE COMPASSIONATE LIKE JESUS CHRIST (1)

Bible Texts: Lk.7:12-13, Rom.5:5, Rom.12:21, Rev.5:5, Heb.4:15, 2Cor.5:14, Ps.145:8, Ps.103:8, Jn.14:26, Lk.18:1, Philp.2:13

One of the Christ-like attributes you must have as the good and godly husbandman when you lead your wife and children is compassion. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, was compassionate to His disciples, and so He wants you to do the same to your wife and children.

Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, weep not. (Lk.7:12-13)

Jesus, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, had compassion on the woman whose son was dead. Jesus did not know her, but when He saw the burial procession of the woman’s son, He asked questions. He wanted to know what happened. He had compassion when He saw the woman’s tears and pain. Jesus pitied the woman and brought her dead son back to life. Jesus made her laugh again. Jesus wiped her tears away and gave her joy. That is who you are. You are a compassionate shepherd.

Compassion moves you to see the need to pray for your wife and children so that they can be good and godly vessels. Compassion is what makes you connect with their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual need, which motivates you to pray for them. Compassion moves you to look beyond their faults, weaknesses, and failures and work towards helping them overcome their challenges. Compassion makes you consider them first as gifts from God rather than focus on their faults.

Compassion is the nature of Jesus Christ and that is the life you have in you.

But how do I get filled with compassion like Jesus Christ and extend same to my wife and children?

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, uproot every evil thought in my heart.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with Your love and let it move me to be compassionate and merciful.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man with divine nature and make me function like Christ.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Jesus Christ and by it I am moved by mercy and compassion towards my wife and children because that is what defines my headship as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
