Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, weep not. (Lk.7:12-13)
Jesus, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, wants you to show compassion to your wife and children the same way He had compassion on the widow who lost her son to death. Jesus Christ was moved with compassion towards her and made her rejoice again by bringing her dead son back to life.
As the good and godly husbandman, do not allow the weaknesses, failures, or faults of your wife and children hinder you from showing them compassion when they are hurt. Let mercy and the love of Christ in you move you to help them overcome their hurt. You must always remember that compassion is the nature of Jesus Christ, and that is the life you have in you.
But how do I get filled with compassion like Jesus Christ and extend same to my wife and children?
Firstly, you must have the mind of Christ.
Let this mind be in you, even the mind of Christ….(Philp.2:5)
Having the mind of Christ means that your decisions, actions, and thoughts are influenced by the principles of Scripture, not the philosophies of man or the rudiments of this world.
Secondly, you must engage the power of the Holy Ghost to fill your heart with the love of Christ.
Let the love of Christ be spread abroad in your heart by the Holy Ghost (Rom.5:5)
The Person of the Holy Spirit empowers you with compassion and mercy. He fills your heart with the love of Christ, which helps you to overcome revenge, bitterness, unforgiveness, hatred, and any form of ungodly thoughts and actions that satan may be suggesting to you against your wife and children.
Therefore, as you set out today, desire and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to fill you with His love and compassion so that through it, you can receive the spirit of grace and supplication to intercede for the glorious future of your wife and children.
Hallelujah!
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, uproot every evil thought in my heart.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with Your love and let it move me to be compassionate and merciful.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man with divine nature and make me function like Christ.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have the mind of Jesus Christ and by it I am moved by mercy and compassion towards my wife and children because that is what defines my headship as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
