I have come to discover that the reason why the husbandman is failing in his role as the good and godly man, husband and father, is that he has not seen himself as a steward, ordained by God to serve his wife and children.
Let us consider the Scripture in Luke Gospel, chapter 19 and verses 11 to 26.
In Luke 19:11-26, Jesus Christ told a story about a landowner who gave three men money to manage. The men were to invest and grow the money given to them because they must account to the landowner of their stewardship of the resource given to them. When the landowner returned, he demanded from the men their reports of how they used the money given to them. While the first and second managers made profit from the money given to them, the third did not. The landowner called the first and second managers wise men and the third manager a wicked man.
What are the lessons you can learn from this story as the husbandman?
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness therefore, the world and they that dwell therein (Ps.24:1)
The first lesson is that your wife and children are God’s resources. You don’t own them. God owns them and He gave them to you to make them profitable unto God (Eph.5:25-29, Eph.6:4).
No one receives anything except it be given to him by God (Jn.3:27)
The second lesson is that you will give account of how you lead your wife and your children because they God’s resources given to you by God.
But how do I become a good and godly steward?
The first is for you to have knowledge of the truth of God’s word in your life (Jn.8:32). You must seek to know from God’s word what He has commanded you to do with your wife and your children according to purposes and plans of God.
The second wisdom key is prayer and fasting (Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19). You must give yourself to prayer and fasting so you can overcome the influences of satan, sin and the world. As the good and godly manager, you must recognize that there exist resistance from satan, sin and the world, trying to resist your walk of righteousness (Jn.10:10). But when you pray and fast, you connect to the power of God which empowers you to make your wife and your children useful to God and to you (Jn.15:5, Philp.2:13).
God trusts you, so He gave you a wife and children. Your wife and children are God’s most valuable resources. From today, ask for the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit to help you become the good, godly and profitable steward.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being wasteful of Your resources in my care.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me wisdom to make the resources You gave me profitable.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to be the good steward of Your resources in my care.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am the good steward of God’s resources and I work to make the resources in my care bigger, better and profitable because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
