EXCUSES MAKE LAME

Bible Texts: 2Thess.3:1-16, 1Pet.3:7-9, 1Cor.13:11, 1Tim.5:7-8, Deut.6:4-10, Col.3:19, Ps.23:1-4, Eph.6:4, Eph.5:25

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But when I became a man, I put away childish things (1Cor.13:11)

As the husbandman, you cannot continue to live a disorderly life and expect to grow and be like Jesus Christ. You cannot continue to give excuses for your irresponsible life and call it your weakness. You must deal with those attitudes of yours that do not align with the Word of God.

You cannot continue to engage in sexual immorality and have extra-marital affairs and blame your wife’s misbehaviour for your actions. You cannot continue to abuse your wife and your children emotionally or physically and blame your anger for it. You cannot continue to lie, cheat, and steal what does not belong to you and blame the pressure of life for it. You cannot continue to dishonour and disrespect your body, your parents, or others and blame them for the way they misbehave to you.

There is no excuse that is worthy enough to defend your misconduct. There is a better life in Christ that you have when you give your life to Jesus Christ (2Cor.5:17). That is the life God wants you to live. God wants your life to be ruled by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ.

Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us, for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you (2Thess.3:6-7)

As the husbandman, you must behave in an orderly manner in your thoughts, words, actions, responses, and reactions. Your life and conduct must be in tune with the instructions, principles, and commandments of Scripture for you as the man, husband, and father. You must contain and control your desires for food, sex, power, position, money, and authority. This is what makes you the good and godly husbandman after the pattern of Jesus Christ, the perfect example.

Your heavenly Father wants you to be like His Son, Jesus Christ. Therefore, walk orderly and follow Jesus Christ because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power and force of uncontrolled emotions and appetite.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to bring my thoughts, emotions and responses under the power of Your word and authority.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me by Your word and Spirit to conduct my life in order and after Your perfect will for my life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am filled with the Spirit of Christ, and I conduct myself in an orderly manner and according to the perfect will of God for my life as the man, husband and father because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
