Main Scriptures: Gal.2:9

In fact, James, Peter and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognize the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me and as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews (Gal.2:9) NLT
As the head of the family and the shepherd over your flock, one of the virtues of your headship is the ability to recognize your flock and their gifts. Consider, Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband. He recognized the gifts of His disciples and was able to maximize their potentials. I am the good shepherd and know my sheep and am known of mine (Jn.10:14). If you claim that you are the head of your family and you cannot recognize the gifts of your flock, you are not fit to provide purposeful leadership to your flock. But what does it mean to recognize the gifts of God at work in the lives of your flock? It simply means their talents. It means the things they know how to do excellently and without stress or struggle. It may be singing, writing, teaching, hospitality, cooking, playing musical instruments, etc. You must understand that your wife and children are not giftless. They are treasures and have hidden treasures. If you recognize them and help them to maximize it, you enjoy the fruits thereof.
So, see the task of recognizing the gifts in your flock as a challenge and partner with God through the Holy Spirit, to reveal their giftings to you. But why are the gifts of my sheep so important to me as their shepherd? Firstly, it creates a large room (of opportunity) for them and you. For the gift of a man makes room for him (Pro.18:16). When their gifts are recognized and well exploited, it brings them to their wealthy places. Secondly, your seeds become people to be envied and famous. And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles and their offspring among the people. All that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9). As the leader in your home and the overseer over the flock of God in your custody, you cannot afford to be careless or be carried away with the temporary. You must continue to seek higher tasks because that is what will enhance your voice as a good and godly husband.
