Main Scriptures: Neh.4:1-3

Sanballat was very angry when he learned that we were rebuilding the wall. He flew into a rage and mocked the Jews, saying in front of his friends and the Samarian army officers, what does this bunch of poor, feeble Jews think they are doing? Do they think they can build the wall in a single day by just offering a few sacrifices? Do they actually think they can make something of stones from a rubbish heap and charred ones at that? Tobiah and Ammonite, who was standing beside him, remarked, that stone wall would collapse if even a fox walked along the top of it (Neh.4:1-3) NLT
Studying these verses of Scriptures reveal some revelational truths about some of the challenges many husbands are confronted with, specifically, as it relates to the problems they may have with their sheep. In our main text today, Nehemiah, a good and godly shepherd to the people of Israel, needed to rebuild the broken walls of the city, Jerusalem. He wasn’t happy with the poor state of the sheepfold of the people of God. He was committed to effect the change. But the people around him did not think it was possible to rebuild the walls. Sanballat and Tobiah mocked Nehemiah in front of his friends. They taunted him and said, “Nehemiah, do you think you can rebuild the wall in a day? Do you think you can bring something positive out of this rubbish? And finally, they said, “the walls will collapse like a pack of cards”.
This is exactly what happens when you have to contend with sheep that are disrespectful, disloyal, stubborn, unteachable, bitter, unforgiving and proud. As the shepherd and the head of your family, it may appear that your wife and children are like broken walls. Their character may appear as if they irredeemable or worse still lost cases. Your family members, friends and colleagues may have told you that there is nothing good that will come out of your wife and children. This was the experience of Nehemiah. But as a responsible shepherd, the negative outcomes of your sheep are not as important as rebuilding their lives. You are the change agent God has sent to their lives to repair those areas where they are failing or have failed. So, don’t give up on your sheep. God hasn’t given up on them, so do not. And one major way you can rebuild their broken lives is by the word of God. The word of God is the principal weapon that is able to build them up. It is surer and unfailing. Therefore, deploy the word and make the lives of your sheep better and bigger.
