MANNERS MAKE THE HUSBAND
Main Scriptures: Matt.7:15-16
More Scriptures: Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4, Ps.1:1-2
If you are asked how you could define a good and godly husband, what attributes would you use? And can you separate the head of the family from his manners or better still, his attitude? These questions are very important for you and I to answer if we must be profitable husbands to our wives. It is even more relevant in the times we are in, when husbands have begun to lose their true identity. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of a good and godly husband, summed up this truth when He said, by their fruits, ye shall know them (Matt.7:20). You can and will always identify a seed by the fruits that it bears. A mango seed when planted and nurtured to full maturity will bear mangoes. And the taste also defines the nature of the fruits. Mangoes are sweet. Lemon fruits are not. In fact, a mango fruit does not have to explain itself to the person who eats it because it carries in it the nature that makes it a mango-sweet and succulent. That is what makes it a mango fruit.
So, the question you must ask yourself is this, are you behaving like a good and godly husband to your sheep? Do you struggle to explain your personality as a man, husband and father to your flock? Do your fruits reflect the nature of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband? The Scripture commands you and I to examine and consider our ways. This admonition is so important because in the course of leading your wife and children, you are faced with distractions. These distractions if not handled will make you to derail from doing the things that qualify you as the head of the family.
As the head of the family, it does not fit your status to explain to your sheep that you are the head. It is also needless to keep reminding your wife and children that you are a good and godly husbandman. Rather, your sheep should know you as a good and godly husband by your conduct; and that they can identify with Jesus Christ in your life. This places a demand on you to work on yourself and take personal responsibility to live the life Jesus Christ wants you to live-a life of godliness, generosity, mercy, compassion, diligence, forgiveness, hospitality, support and encouragement. And one way principal way you can improve on the quality of your life as a good and godly husband is to daily renew your mind with the Word of God (Rom.12:2). The more you read anointed books like this devotional in your hands and listen to godly inspired teachings, the more the Spirit of God empowers you to develop and manifest godly manners. And the Spirit entered into me when the Lord spake unto me (Ezk.2:2). Be a good and godly fruit to wife and children and you will be glad you did.
