But as many as received him, to them gave them power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.; which were born, not of blood , nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man but of God. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (Jn.1:12-14)
I have been privileged to speak with some husbands in my little journey as a minister of the gospel. And I observed that most of the husbands that are having challenges functioning as good and godly husbands are not happy with their lifestyle. They genuinely want to be godly men, husbands and fathers to their wives, children and their societies. Many have good intentions but that have not translated into practical results. Some have promised not to physically or emotionally abuse their wives yet they fall into the trap of battering their wives. Others have promised not to commit adultery with another woman yet they find themselves going back to their vomit. Many more are helpless and have given up hope that anything good and godly can happen between them and their sheep. Many have lost the confidence their sheep once had for them. Their heart is willing to do what is right but their flesh is weak.
This is why you need a higher force-the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. As a husband who wants to live a good and godly life, you cannot succeed by your skill, wisdom or strength. According to Scriptures, “it is not by power nor by might but by the Spirit of God” Zech.4:6. It is the Spirit of God that energizes you to look your wife in the eye after she has offended you and tell her she is valuable and you still love her. It is the same Spirit that empowers you to reject any offer from a strange woman to commit adultery. In fact, the Spirit of God is what you need to live the life that God wants you to live as a man, husband and father. The good news is that you have that power with God (Mic.3:8).
So, for you to access this power, you must deepen your relationship with the Person of Jesus Christ, who has all you need to become a good and godly husband (2Cor.5:17). It is in Him you have your being and existence. Secondly, you must travail on the prayer altar continually until the change you want to see occurs (Gal.4:19). The prayer of faith changes all things. Thirdly, you must be steadfast and not be distracted (Matt.6:22). You must meditate on the truth from the Word of God until your faith is built up. And you must act like one who has power.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me by Your Spirit to live like You to my flock.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to manifest the full authority of my headship.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to obtain results as I lead my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am empowered by the Spirit of God and I walk in that authority to fulfill my calling as a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
