To Lead Is To Serve

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.20:25-28

More Scriptures: Lk.12:37, Is.65:8, Lk.22:26

Jesus called them together and said, you know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whosoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-just as the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom (Jn.20:25-28) NIV

As the husband and the head of your family, it is very important for you to understand that the success of your leadership is not found in your status, position or age. It is found in the level of service you have rendered to your wife and children. That is what Jesus Christ, the perfect example of how every husband is commanded to behave, taught us. Jesus Christ gave every husband an example to follow and demonstrated that much with His teachings and practical examples. Jesus Christ stooped so low and washed His disciples’ feet. He sacrificed His convenience and comfort so that those following Him can be comfortable. Despite His busy schedules and the fact that He was tired, yet, He walked a very long distance to raise Lazarus from the dead. All that concerned Him was to make the lives of His followers better than He met them.

Now, there are two principal ways you can serve your wife and children. The first is with your time. This includes getting up to pray for them when it seems your body is weak. It also means making yourself available to give physical support to your flock. It involves creating time to communicate with your wife and children, even when satan is offering you bitterness and malice. Your flock needs you. The second is with the financial resources that God has blessed you with. You must serve your sheep with the money you have by providing shelter, food and clothing. Your wife and children must take priority in your financial plans. It is ungodly if you hide your money and always expect your wife to foot the bills. It doesn’t matter whether your wife earns more or less, you are the shepherd and you are obligated to care for your sheep. Very importantly, you must give to your sheep cheerfully and not grudgingly. You are not doing your wife and children a favour by providing for them. You are only performing your godly roles as a good shepherd.

Therefore, if you desire the first place in the lives of your sheep, be their servant. And if you want to be great before them, be their servant. God has made you great; serve your way up.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ and I serve my wife and children cheerfully and faithfully because I am a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
