The Principal Thing

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Kgs. 3:7-9

More Scriptures: Pro.3:19, Pro.4:9, Heb.11:3

And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father, and I am but a little child. I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this thy great a people? 1Kgs.3:7-9

The story in 1Kgs.3 was about king Solomon. After the death of his father, David, God enthroned him as a king to lead His people. After he had offered a great sacrifice to God, God appeared to him in a dream. God asked him what he needed from Him. And he replied that he needed wisdom to be able to lead the people God had committed into his hands. He got the wisdom from God and reigned successfully.

Now as the head of your family, your desire to provide for your household, food, clothing education, shelter, and health care is good. But your desire to operate in divine wisdom is much more important. It is the principal thing. The word of God says so. Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom and with all thy getting get understanding (Pro.4:7). You need a large dose of the wisdom of God to lead your wife all the days of your marital journeys. Many husbands have lost their wife whom they have been married to for several years to divorce. Many more have lost their children as soon as the children become adults. It doesn’t matter how long you have been a husband, if you do not continue to equip yourself with the wisdom of God, you will lose your sheepfold. Satan is on rampage. He is going about looking for the sheepfold he will destroy. He has operated and triumphed over many husbands by using the weapon of foolishness founded on ignorance. Only the wisdom of God can dislodge the wiles of the devil.

But why do I need the wisdom of God to lead my sheep and how do I get it? The Scripture says that by wisdom the world was framed by the word of God (Heb.11:3). Whatever positive attitude you desire to see in the lives of your sheep can be framed by the wisdom of God. It is the wisdom of God that will make you to intercede for your flock rather than complain and murmur (Gal.4:19). It is also the wisdom of God that will make you control the words you speak in the direction of your children when they hurt you. And you get this wisdom by asking the Lord to give you by His Spirit. If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and it shall be given to him (Jas.1:5).
