The Righteous Husbandman Flourishes

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ps.92:12

More Scriptures: Eph.1:18-19, 1Cor.13:4-7, Eph.6:4

The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon (Ps.92:7-12)

Do you know what it means to flourish as a husband? Do you think that there is a reward for doing the right thing from the Word of God to your wife and children? If you have any doubt about the value of doing what is godly and right to your sheep, Psalms 92 has provided the answer. The word of God says that the righteous shall flourish like a palm tree. Now, as the head of your family and the priest over your wife and children, how do I become a righteous husbandman? You become a righteous husband by doing the right thing to your flock. Husbands love thy wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself for it (Eph.5:25). So, the Scripture commands you to love your wife because it is the right thing to do. What then does it mean to love your wife as the right thing to do? It means you are patient with your wife; you do not envy her success; you do not make her feel inferior; you do not rejoice when she fails or falls into error; you are not just thinking about yourself but much more about her and her well-being; you do not think to hurt her rather you have control over your emotions; you believe her and God’s promises for her life; you welcome her suggestions, advice and corrections when she makes such and you amend your ways; you pray for her in your closet that Christ will be formed in her and that she will come to the fullness of her place in Jesus Christ (1Cor.13:4-7, Eph.1:18-19, Gal.4:19).

And to your children, you are a righteous husbandman when you nurture them in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). What this means is that you make time to teach them the will of God for them when it comes to relationship with the opposite sex, their finances, health, career, business, character and eternity. You must understand that your children are from your loins. They are your seeds. Your wife only receives the seed like the earth would and incubates it until she is delivered of a child. So, the responsibility of imparting your children with the right values rest principally with you. And God will hold you accountable both for their success and failure (Gen.18:19, 1Sam.3:13). Very importantly, your children must see the life of Jesus reflected in your word and conduct. These are the right things to do and when you do them, you will enjoy peace and quietness, health and vitality, renewal of strength and mind and favour. You are ordained to flourish as the good shepherd. God wants you to be the light of the Gospel to your wife and children. He wants you to be a great leader to your sheep but you have the responsibility to do what is right (Philp.4:8).
