Main Scriptures: Matt.6:32-33
More Scriptures: 1Sam.8:3, Tit.2:12, 1Cor.15:34
For after all these things do the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you (Matt.6:33)
Many husbands are very familiar with this passage of the Bible. But today, by the help of my Teacher, the Holy Spirit, I want to explore another level of responsibility that God wants every good and godly husband to seek. And I want to specifically direct this to husbands that are pastors, evangelists, prophets, and teachers of the Word of God.
As husbandmen in ministry, God wants you and I to succeed both in our callings and families. God wants us to have the best and not worst of times with our wives, children and those around us. Unfortunately, this has not been the case with many husbandmen in ministry. Many have succeeded in ministry but failed in the family life. Many more have broken marriages, living with bitter and hurting wives and contending with rebellious children. This is because many are seeking to build the ministry, expand the church network and reach out and bring many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, while neglecting the first assignment- the family.
As a man of God, there are two very important pursuits you must seek if you want to enjoy the fullness of God for you as the head of your family. And that is what the word of God in Matt.6:33 talks about. God wants you to seek His kingdom and His righteousness. This means that there are two things you must seek first. For instance, you must make out time out of your busy schedules to demonstrate the love of Jesus to your wife. Pray for and with her. Take her on a trip and socialize. Always see her as your partner rather than an enemy or a piece of furniture. You must also make out time to attend to your children, pray for and with them, and teach them the Word of God. You must see them as assets that must be maximized rather than a burden on your ministry. The Scripture has this to say about this very important area of calling for every husbandman. This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work………one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity. For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?(1Tim.3:1-7). However, you need the wisdom of God to be able to seek the kingdom of God and do the right things to your sheep. So, you need to ask the Holy Spirit to help you balance kingdom assignment and family responsibility so that you will not be like Prophet Samuel who succeeded in ministry but failed in family (1Sam.8:1-5)
