Message From The Mirror

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.50:18-20

More Scriptures: Eph.4:32, Col.3:13, Php.3:13

And his brethren also went and fell down before his face and they said behold, we be thy servants. And Joseph said unto them fear not, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive (Gen.50:18-20).

As a husband reading this devotional, I want you to underline the second sentence in the Scriptural passage above. Now, let us consider the message from the mirror. Every time you look into the mirror you see the perfect reflection of what you look like and the dress you put on. The mirror shows you the minutest details and spots either on your face or dress. But as soon as you walk away from the mirror, you do not see those spots and may not be able to recollect perfectly what you saw when you looked at the mirror. Relating with the story in Genesis chapter 50 to the message of the mirror, you will understand that forgiveness is greater than hatred, and mercy more treasured than silver and gold. Joseph’s brothers betrayed him. They sold him into slavery. They lied about him and put their father, Jacob under pressure. Yet, when his brothers needed food and were starving, they had to go to Egypt where their brother was in charge. Joseph had the advantage. He had the power to do as it pleased him- take revenge and imprison his brothers. Rather than take this route and exercise his authority, he said, “am I now taking the place of God?” I know you have offended me but I have looked away from the mirror and I honestly cannot recollect your offences. I have let go and let God because mercy and forgiveness is a proof of maturity.

As the head of your family and the leader over your wife and children, do you have a bank in your heart where you keep records of the offences of your sheep? Do always want to exercise authority to take revenge against your wife and sheep because you think you have the advantage? If anything, you must look at the offences of your flock and walk away from them. This means that it is true that your sheep have offended you. It is also true that the sins are enormous and staring you in the face. But as the leader who is the representative of Jesus Christ, you must deliberately forgive your sheep. You must make the choice to look away from their faults instead of dwell on them. Forgiveness is not a feeling. It is a hard and wise and conscious decision. It may be difficult but it is not impossible because God’s grace is available and sufficient for you. So, let go.

 SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from pride and arrogance.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the heart of compassion and mercy toward my wife and children.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with Your love and power to forgive my wife and children instantly.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I have considered mercy over hatred and compassion over revenge because that is what defines my headship as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
