The Red Cap Chief

If you are from the Eastern part of Nigeria, you will understand what it means when a man is addressed as a red cap chief. In fact, it is an honorable position to occupy and it comes with so much responsibilities and commitments. That is who you are and that is what the Scripture in Ephesians chapter 5 and verses 22 to 23 tries to communicate.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their own body just as Christ does for the church (Eph.5:25-29) NIV

As a husband, you may or may not have come across the above Scriptural passages. But if you have, I would want you to look at it again and glean some truth. And I am confident that you will become a better and godly husband. As the head of your family fold and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, you have so much at stake and so much to do for your flock. Every time the husband fails to lead, he leaves his sheep at the mercy of the world, sin and the devil. So, just like the red cap chief, your headship comes with so much responsibility. The good news is that God knows that you are capable of leading your family fold. He did not make a mistake when He decided to make you the head of your family fold because He had already made provisions for you to succeed in six critical areas. Firstly, as a pastor. Secondly as a priest. Thirdly, as a shepherd. Fourthly as a mentor. Fifthly as a king. And sixthly as lord. So your head truly fits the cap of leadership.

But how do I run with the cap of leadership as a husband? Firstly, you must continue to celebrate your position as a husband. What you don’t thank God for will always diminish. The more you keep thanking God for giving you the opportunity to lead your sheep, the more you receive inspiration to becoming a better husbandman-man, husband and father. Secondly, agree with God that He was right for making you the head of your family and He meant well when He did. This will help you to accept full responsibility for the lives of your wife and children and allow the instructions from the Bible, which is the word of God, to influence your decisions. When you accept personal responsibility for anything, it becomes easy to accept the demands and consequences.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to succeed as a man, husband and father.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above the flesh and its attractions.

·         In the Name of Jesus, empower me to take full responsibility for the lives of my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have gone for the cap of the husbandman because I know it fits me and I engage myself to fulfill all there is as the head of my family because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
