Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering . and so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace (Rom.8:1-6) NIV
As the head of your family and the husband of your wife, it is difficult to love your wife as Jesus Christ has loved the Church if you live by the standards and dictates of the world. This is because the love of Christ that God wants you to extend to your sheep is of spiritual virtue. And it will take a spiritually minded husband to connect to the fruits of the spirit. So, until you are in Christ, it would be difficult for you to love your sheep the same way Jesus would love them. This is very important especially in the times we are living, where carnality has taken the place of spirituality-ruling our family fold by the rudiments of the world instead of the truth of Scriptures.
As the head of your family and the shepherd of your sheep fold, you cannot afford to live and lead your flock with the standard and rules of the world and expect the life of peace. You must rise above carnality. You must embrace spirituality. And because your office as the husbandman is spiritual, the law of the Spirit must guard and guide your life. So, you must mind what the Word of God says much more than what your friends, family members, relations or the world say. God wants the abundant life to manifest in your relationship with your wife and children (Jn.10:10). God wants to give you peace of mind. He doesn’t want you to live in chaos with your flock. But you have a responsibility to engage in spiritual demands like intense word study, prayers, meditation, godly determination to do what is righteous, fasting, and much more. And as you allow the Holy Spirit and the law of the Spirit to lead you and influence your decisions, you will enjoy life and peace. Your family fold would become like the Garden of Eden. The relationship between you and your sheep becomes strengthened and deepened.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, I want to be ruled by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy the power of the law of flesh that leads to death.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to grow in grace and in the power of Your word and Your Spirit.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am ruled by the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus because that is my lifeline to live as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
