And He Prayed For His Wife

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.25:20-21

More Scriptures: Eph.5:27, 1Jn2:1, Jn.10:11

Abraham became the father of Isaac and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean. ISAAC PRAYED TO THE LORD ON BEHALF OF HIS WIFE, because she was childless. The Lord answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant (Gen.25:20-12) NIV

I want you to consider for a moment what could have happened if Isaac did not pray for his wife who was confirmed childless. Perhaps, she may have remained barren much longer. The challenge of barrenness was not with the husband. It was with the wife. So, rather than allow the wife to carry the burden alone, he stood in the gap for his wife. He prayed for her until the will of God for his family was established. My little children, I travail in prayers until Christ is formed in you (Gal.4:19). That is the nature God wants you to demonstrate to your sheep. God wants you to pray for your wife instead of complaining about all her failures. God also wants you to pray for your children rather than abandon them. You are everything that your wife and children want to see about Jesus Christ. In fact, Jesus Christ prayed for the church in John Gospel chapter 17.

You must appreciate that your sheep will come with faults and many defects. So, don’t expect them to be perfect. However, you can help them overcome those obstacles by interceding for them just like Isaac and Jesus Christ did. As the head of your family and the shepherd over your wife, what you say in prayers, especially in your quiet time of communication with God, goes a long way to influence how your wife responds to you and the issues that concern you. The will of God is for you to have a wife that is without spot or wrinkle. He desires you to have a godly wife and children-a reflection of the Church, hence it is your singular honour to pray the changes you desire to see in your sheep.

But what do you pray about for your sheep? You pray for the will of God to be formed in their lives so that they can become all that God has created them to be. God wants your wife to submit to you in all things. God wants your wife to respect and honour you and be faithful to you. God also wants your children to obey you and follow your godly instructions. God doesn’t want them to be rebellious. God wants them to be in good health and prosper (3Jn:2). All of these and much more are the focus of your prayers for your sheep so that through it all, you will grow to become a good and godly husband indeed.
