You Aren’t Too Big To Do Small Work

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Heb.12:1-3

More Scriptures: 1Cor.13:5, Lk.18:1, Mk.9:29

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS, THE PIONEER AND PERFECTER OF FAITH. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God (Heb.12:1-2) NIV

Sometime ago, I took time off to cook for my wife and children. I was eager to serve them.  And I was glad I did as it helped me to reconnect to my sheep and leave behind some vital values. And that is, it is profitable to serve, it doesn’t matter your status or position. That is exactly what the word of God in Heb.12 wants to communicate to every husband. Jesus Christ wants every husband to imitate Him-how He served and did not wait to be served. Though He was the King of kings and Lord of lords, yet He did not consider any task too small for His disciples. He washed their feet, made time to teach them and served them the communion.

So, the question before you today is this, Is there any task too small for you to do or too big for you to do for your wife and children? You must understand that as the head of your family, the life and Person of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband must continue to inspire you. His life must motivate you to consider every task concerning your relationship with your wife and children to be very important-getting involved in their academics, knowing their social lives, and much more. As a husband, your life and conduct must be the best example for your flock to emulate. You are the Jesus Christ they have read about in their Bible. However, for you to value every task as important, you will need to be humble in your heart. Humility is your greatest defence against pride. One of the virtues that God doesn’t want you to have is pride. The Scripture says, love does not behave itself unseemly…. (1Cor.13:5). Another practical step you need to take is to pray for your sheep to connect to the values of service and participate fully. And finally, you must be very careful who you camp around with as friends. If your friends do not serve their sheep, they will influence you to do same. If you have friends who consider their sheep as inferior, you will see yours the same way. If you have friends who consider themselves as masters and their sheep as slaves, you will behave in like manner. And as you take these steps in faith, you will become the greatest hero your wife and children will ever have and you will become a reference point in their lives.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of pride in my life.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of humility and the fear of the Lord.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit to servant-hood and help me to serve my sheep lovingly.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I am ordained to lead my wife and children and I serve them with my resources and time as a proof that I am a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
