Dealing With A Sinning Wife

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.18:14-16

More Scriptures: 1Pet.3:7, Rom.5:5, Eph.5:29

Do you have a wife who is disobedient to you or you have a wife who has shown you so much disrespect and you are thinking of how best to deal with her? Well, the Scripture in Matt.18:15 provides the answer. And if you would allow the word of God to dwell in you and you allow it to influence your life, you will make the most of your headship and enjoy your rulership over your wife.

Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother (Matt.18:15). From the foregoing verse of the Bible, Jesus Christ who is the perfect example of a good and godly husband, helps us to understand how to deal with those who offend us. He said two things are required. The first is to make an effort to seek to help the person who is sinning and secondly engage the person in a conversation. Very importantly, you do not expose the person’s offence to anybody but between you and the person. So, taking a lesson from this, it is important for you to know that as the head of your family and the shepherd over your sheep, you should expect your sheep to offend you. You should expect your sheep to occasionally cross the line. And sometimes they cross the line quite often. But rather than bear malice against your wife and children or seek revenge, you must allow the love of Christ to dwell abundantly inside you. And this is what motivates you to open the line of conversation with your sheep.  The other action plan you must take to help your flock out of their bad lifestyle is to ensure that you keep their weakness as discreet as possible. The greatest mistake you will make is to expose the failures or weakness or their sins to a third party irrespective of how close that person may be to you. This is because when you expose their faults, you diminish their self-esteem and self-confidence. And this will also attract a negative reaction from your sheep to your instructions.

However, for you to be able to get the attention of your sinning sheep, you need to take these following practical steps. Firstly, you must earnestly pray for the outpouring of the Spirit of love to saturate your thoughts. The Word of God has this to say. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us (Rom.5:5). Secondly, ask the Lord in prayers to take away from your wife and children a stubborn mindset and replace it with a responsive one. It is when your sheep have a responsive heart that they will be willing to listen to you and heed correction.

And as you do what Jesus Christ has commanded you to do, you will recover your sheep and regain their trust and confidence.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to seek a way of escape for my sheep.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of grace and supplication to continue to pray for my sheep.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with Your love and let it motivate me to protect my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am motivated by the love of Jesus Christ and by it I am determined to seek reconciliation with my wife and children because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
