Your Wife And Children Are Very Good

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.1:26-28

More Scriptures: Mal.2:14, Eph.5:22, 1Pt.3:7

What do you think of your wife and children? Do you see them as good treasures or bad luck? Before you answer these questions, let me use an illustration to convey the message. If you have ever bought a refrigerator, you will see this inscription on the body of the carton-turn this way. Now, this instruction is to protect the equipment from being damaged. And this is what the Person of the Holy Spirit is saying to you today. There is a way you ought to handle your wife and children, if you want to avoid any damage to their lives- spirit, soul and body. The same way your refrigerator may develop complications if you disobey the manufacturer’s instruction of turning it in the right way, so it is with you when you upturn God’s instructions as regards how to live with your wife and children. Why? So God created man…and in the image of God created he them male and female…..and behold IT WAS VERY GOOD (Gen.1:26, 31).

Your wife and children are created by a good God and handed over to you to treat them goodly. They are very good creatures. You don’t own them. God does. You are only a caretaker. But you may want to ask how do I turn my wife and children in the way of the Lord Jesus Christ? You turn them in the way of God first by being humble. Humility is an issue of the heart. And one of the evidences of a humble person is the willingness to accept corrections and be teachable. The Bible reaffirms that God gives grace to the humble and not the proud person. It is true that you are the head of your family. It is also true that you are the man of authority. However, you must appreciate the truth that you are also a man under the authority of Jesus Christ. A life of humility will give you access to greater wisdom of God that will give you the power to treat your wife and children as God would. Secondly, you must learn to follow the instructions of God, whether or not it makes sense.

A lot of the time, the instructions that God gives when it comes to how you handle your wife and children always does not make sense logically. For instance, in Colossians 3:19, the Scripture says, husband love your wife and be not bitter against her. Now, does this instruction make any human sense to you, when moments ago your wife insulted and disrespected you, or even embarrassed you, yet you are commanded to extend kindness to her? No, it doesn’t. Yet, it makes God-sense, because the foolishness of God is higher and better than the wisdom of man. In His instruction lies your peace. Thirdly, you must be committed to your wife and children, discipline and exercise self-control. You must be prepared to do exactly what God commands you to do because in God’s wisdom lies your peace.

FAITH CONFESSION

My wife and children are precious gifts from God and I am committed to loving them as Christ would because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
