Handle God’s Treasures With Care

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Eph.6:4

More Scriptures: Mal.2:14, Eph.5:22, 1Pt.3:7

Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honour to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered (1Pet.3:7).

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4)

The summary of the above Scriptures for you as the head of your family is to handle your wife and children with care because they are treasures from God. So much like you handle very expensive and precious items purchased, you are expected to give the same attention to your wife and children. Have you ever purchased something very precious and expensive? If you have, you will notice the phrase HANDLE WITH CARE. The reason why this information is important is that if you did not handle with care, you will not only lose the value, you will also lose the item, sometimes permanently. That is what happens if you do not handle your sheep with utmost care. If you mishandle your sheep, you may lose them to the world, sin and satan.

Your wife and children are precious in the sight of God. God took His time to form your wife and children. He exercised diligent care and precision when He formed them. And after He had made them, the Scripture says, and He saw that everything that He has created was VERY GOOD (Gen.1:26). So God did not give you a bad wife or children. He gave you a very good wife and wonderful children (Is.1:18-19). If there is anything bad about them, you are principally responsible for it. It maybe the way you have mistreated them. You cannot maltreat your wife and children and expect to reap their honour and respect.

But how do I handle my wife and children with utmost care? Firstly, you must treat them with respect and honour. If you honour them, they will reciprocate and honour you in return. If you respect them, they will also respond in the same measure, because whatever a man sows that is what he will reap. Secondly, you must not abuse or think evil of them. The Bible says that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. If your heart is full of evil thoughts toward your wife and children your life will gravitate to be mean, ungodly, unkind and hurtful to them. You will have bad will toward them. Another way you can handle your wife and children with care is for you to see them as the express image of God rather than just a number or an identity. If you see them as gifts from God, you will treat them the same way God would. You will value and hold them in high esteem. God blesses every steward who is faithful. Therefore, handle your sheep with care and watch God bless you richly.
