Main Scriptures: Micah 6:1
More Scriptures: Prov.17:6, Eph.5:23, Jos.24:15
Prior to when I began ministry, I had listened to several messages on marriage and family. And one thing that was common in all the messages was that it is the wife who fights for the security and sustenance of the sheepfold. For instance when there is a crisis in the family, the wife is advised to do everything not to rock the boat. She is advised to pray and sometimes fast. She is told to pacify her husband. But as I began to study the Bible, I discovered that the person with the responsibility to secure the sheepfold is the shepherd and not the sheep. This error that it is the wife who must pray to win back her home has resulted in my many husbands becoming irresponsible and the sheepfold on a free fall. So, I trust that as you read this epistle, your understanding will be opened to realize that you are the shepherd and it is your primary responsibility to secure your sheepfold.
I am the good shepherd, the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep (Jn.10:11). From this scripture, you will appreciate that it is the shepherd that sacrifices his convenience for his sheep and not the other way. So, the shepherd prays for the sheep, provides for them, takes every righteous step to ensure that his sheep and sheepfold is safe and secured. Now between you and your wife and children who is the shepherd and the sheep? You agree with me that you are the shepherd and they are the sheep because you are the head of your family (Eph.5:23-25, Gen. 2:15-18). The second point to note is that as the head of the family and the shepherd over your sheep, you have assumed a leadership role. This means that you are their leader. And as a leader, you are expected to influence them for good and God. Furthermore, the life of your wife has been submerged into your life so that the life she lives is reflected through you (Gen.3:16). Again, the glory of your children is not their mother but you (Pro.17:6). Finally, God has commanded you to nurture and train your children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4, Jos.24:15, Deut.6:4-10).
So having understood these Scriptural truths, it is time for you to rise up and fight for the restoration and sustenance of your sheepfold. Hear ye now what the Lord saith, ARISE, CONTEND thou before the mountains and let the hills hear thy voice (Mic.6:1). The principal way you contend for your sheepfold is through prayers and fasting (Mk.9:29). Also, you must be prepared and ready to take full responsibility for the lives of your wife and children. You are their shepherd and they are your sheep. It is your duty to keep them just the same way Jesus Christ, our Perfect example of how husbands are to behave, kept all that His Father committed into His hands (John 10:28-29).
