As the husband and the head of your family, do you understand the architecture of your wife? Do you know her make up as a woman, wife and mother? It is important for you to know your wife so that you can deal with her as a joint heir of the grace of life that is upon her (1Pet.3:7). God has designed your wife with certain characteristics unique to a woman. Looking at how God created you and your wife, you would understand that your wife is different. God created you out of a raw material-dust. But when God wanted to create the woman, it was different. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man (Gen.2:21-23). Your wife is made from a finished product, while you are made from raw dust. This is why the Scripture commands you to deal with your wife according to knowledge and not beating her up or doing acts that would hurt her life (1Pet.3:7). It is possible to stay with your wife all the days of your life and never for once cheat on her, or even physically assault her. But how do I understand my wife?
The first key is the key of observation. The eyes God has given to you are not for fun. They are there to serve a purpose-observation. And it shall come to pass if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, TO OBSERVE and to do all his commandments…… (Deut.28:1). Until you observe your wife to know her strength, weakness and fears, you cannot act any better. The second key is the key of intercession. A lot of the time, things change negatively between you and your wife. The more you try to reason out the possible causes, the deeper the crisis gets. Prayer is the key that reveals to you the missing link. In Jn.14:26, the Scripture gives you Someone Who can help you-the Holy Spirit. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, HE WILL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS AND BRING ALL THINGS TO YOUR REMEMBRANCE, whatsoever I have said (Jn.14:26). The third key is the key of effective communication. You must continue to engage your wife in healthy conversation. Communication is a powerful tool that you require to understand your wife. The more you discuss with her, the better you understand her capacity to handle certain tasks or responsibilities. She is a jewel of inestimable value sent by God to you for your good and not to hurt you.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the wisdom to treat my wife as a vessel of honour.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to appreciate my wife as a gift from you.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to perform my role as a good and godly shepherd..
FAITH CONFESSION
I partner with the Person of the Holy Spirit to receive the wisdom to handle my wife with respect and dignity because that is what secures my headship as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
