Cling To Goodness

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Romans 12:9-13

More Scriptures: Jer.1:11-12, Philp.4:8, 1Thess.5:22

Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honour giving preference to one another. Not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer, distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality (Rom.12:9-13)

Do you know that no matter how terrible your wife or child may be, there is something good about them that you are yet to discover? Do you know that your wife and children are not as bad as they appear? Do you also know that your sheep have great potentials to become God’s best to humanity? It is for these reasons that you must not give up doing good to them. The Scripture in Roms.12:9-13 exhorts us not to be slack in doing the right thing rather you must be fervent in praying for your sheep, rejoicing in hope and continue to be hospitable.

However, you must understand that satan, your adversary would like to show you the negative sides of your sheep so that you can stop doing good to them but evil. The ultimate of satan’s plan is to kill, steal and destroy your relationship with your sheep (Jn.10:10). This is why the Scripture today is what you need to meditate upon to secure your sheepfold as well as your sheep.  As a husband, if you truly think well and deep about your wife and children, you will be thankful to God for giving them to you. This is because there are many men out there who have much money than you and yet they are not married. And there are many men husbands that are yet to become fathers. But in your case, God has blessed you with the status of a husband and father.

But for you to keep doing what is good to your sheep regardless of their negative attitude, you must take the following steps. The first is that you must make a commitment and be determined in your heart to do good to them (Dan.1:8). The second step is for you to daily pray for the spirit of the love of Christ to gain depth in your heart (Rom.5:5). This is because God is love and if you allow His love to dwell in you, it will empower you to overcome every ungodly tendencies of bitterness, hatred, malice, bad will and unforgiveness that satan may suggest to you to have against your sheep. The third step is to have an attitude of gratitude. What this requires of you is to continue to celebrate your wife and children as gifts from the Lord. The more you learn to thank God for their lives, the more God continues to help to yield godly character. Doing what is right is profitable. You must be an agent of righteous works in your sheepfold and be a blessing to your wife and children.
