ACTIVATING MY POTENTIAL (2)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.2:14-18

More Scriptures: Jn.10:10, Acts 1:1, Matt.5:14-16

Secondly, you are your sheep’s sustainer. Now what does it mean to sustain? It simply means to keep something in its original form without reducing its value or physical appearance. That is exactly what God wants you to do. And that is precisely who you are. God wants you to keep your wife and children in their perfect state. God doesn’t want you to reduce their lives spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. In Gen.2:14, the Bible reminds you of your true worth when He commanded you to tend and keep the Garden (Gen.2:14). You must understand that your presence in the lives of your wife and children is to add value to them and not to hurt or destroy them. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband said something in this light. I came that you may have life and have it more abundantly (Jn.10:10b). You will not count positively in the lives of your sheep if you continue to degrade their lives. Rather, your investment in them to the extent that they retain and maintain the attributes that make them gifts from the Lord is what will make you earn their honour and respect.

Thirdly, you are their nourisher. To nourish something is to give loyal, unwavering and focused attention. When you meet a man, who appears smart in his outfit and glows in his skin, he has given close attention to his clothing and body. So, when you see him appear, everyone admires him. That is exactly who you are to your sheep. Don’t forget that both your wife and children come from you. So, you have the primary task of nurturing them. No one can do it for you. You must take responsibility to provide the atmosphere and support to your sheep so that they can glow in the very image and likeness of God. In Eph.5, the Bible says that so men ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it even as the Lord the church (Eph.5:28-29).

There are four aspects of the lives of your wife and children that God wants you to nourish. The first is their spiritual lives. And this you must do by teaching them the word of God in truth and through your conduct (Acts 1:1, Deut.6:1-10, Eph.6:4, 1Pet.3:7). The second is their emotional lives. You must never speak words that will destroy their self-worth and confidence (Col.3:20). Your words must be graceful. The words you speak to them must motivate and inspire them to strive to become good and godly seeds. Even when they have done what is wrong, you don’t abuse them rather you correct them in love and point to them the pathway of success.
