TAKE CARE OF THE GOODS

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt. 25:14:15

More Scriptures: Ezk.33:6, Is.21:8, 2Cor.11:27

Let me begin by saying that the sheepfold can be likened to a kingdom with a king as the head and the subjects as the wife and children. And like a typical working of a kingdom, when the king dies, he hands over not just the kingdom to the next heir, he also hands over the subjects. That is the inference I want you to draw from the Bible passage in Matt.25:14-15.

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants and delivered unto them his goods (Matt.25:14). The Scripture talks about the owner handing over his goods to those he appointed. The Word of God calls those appointed as servants and the person who appointed them master. The master handed over his goods to his servants to test if they will be accountable or not. The servant did not own the goods. He was only given the goods to enhance its worth. And at the end of the day, the owner demanded that each servant give account of their stewardship. The servants that did well got commendation and were referred to as true and faithful servants. But the one that did not do well got condemnation and was called an unfaithful servant.

Now as the head of your family, God has appointed you as the shepherd. God gave you a sheepfold which is a family. Thereafter, He gave you sheep-a wife and children. So just as the servant did not own the goods, you also do not own your wife and children. God gave them to you in trust and will definitely demand accountability from you. How well you are able to cultivate your sheep is determined by how much God will reward you. As the good shepherd, you are a servant from God to serve your sheep. That is the example Jesus Christ, the perfect model of the good and godly husband, showed to you and I.

You cannot continue to give excuses for your failure as the man, husband and father. You cannot run away away from the responsibilities that define your godly headship. You cannot allow your sheep and sheepfold to be covered by grasses. God has sent you into their lives to make them function at their best. In Eph.5:25, the Bible teaches how you can make your wife a profitable asset. Husbands love thy wife as Christ has loved the church (Eph.5:25).  The Bible also in Eph.6:4 gives you the secret to make your children gainful. Fathers train your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). You are not in the lives of your wife and children to count numbers. God strategically positioned you as the head so that you can give your sheep a good headstart. God wants you to be accountable for the lives of your wife and children He gave you. You must be faithful.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with wisdom on how to cultivate my wife and children for profitable living.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the spirit of boldness and a sound mind.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me by the spirit of faith to act upon Your word for my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have received the goods (sheep) from God and I work to cultivate them to profitable living because that is what makes me a faithful, good and godly steward to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
