Let me remark here and now that the greatest weapon available for the husbandman to clean his sheep from ungodliness, corruption and defilement is the word of God that the shepherd believes. The faith-filled word of God spoken can wash your wife and children from dirty habits and attitudes. It has the power to recover their lost respect, loyalty and dignity. The word of God is ever true and ever dependable. The Scripture has this to say about the power of the word of God to the extent that it can clean up sheep. Husbands love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and CLEANSE IT BY THE WASHING OF WATER BY THE WORD (Ephesians 5:25-26). The same way you wash your dirty clothes by washing them with water and detergent is the approach God wants you to have towards your sheep. Your sheep have their faults and weaknesses. So, rather than complain and murmur about their bad attitude use the power of the word of God to wash them clean. You must understand that you are made in the image and likeness of God. And to that extent, you are like god (Psalms 82:6). If God used the spoken word to recreate a shapeless and dark world, you can do exactly the same (Genesis 1:1-3). In John 15:1, the Bible describes you as the image of the true vine. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. As the true vine, your sheep are to draw the nutrients that would transform them from you. As a husband and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, you are an ordained worker, whose principal responsibility is to raise a generation of righteous flock for God and His kingdom on earth. It is true that your wife and children do not seem to be measuring up to your desired expectation, spiritually, emotionally, mentally and even academically. Sometimes, you are tempted to want to give up on them. Don’t take that option. Use the word of God.
However, the word of God that you know that you don’t declare or speak in the direction of your sheep will not make any remarkable change that you want to see in their lives. The Bible says this in Proverbs 18:20-21. A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:20-21). As the leader of your family fold, what can clean up your wife and children are the words that you speak in their direction, both secretly and openly. You cannot keep speaking negative words toward them and expect different results. Only a mad person expects such. It is not enough for you to wish or think of right words in your heart. You have a godly responsibility to speak it out, if you want to see the salvation of Jesus Christ manifest in their lives (Romans 10:10).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from speaking negative words to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to speak the right words to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, honour the right words that I speak towards my sheep with testimonies.
FAITH CONFESSION
I speak the right words drawn from the WORD OF GOD to my wife and children because that is my weapon of warfare to empower, transform and redirect them as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
