THE EIGHT COMMANDMENTS (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: John 10:1-end

More Scriptures: John 10:28, Proverbs 18:22, Matthew 19:5

In the next seven (8) days, I shall be sharing with you the seven covenant demands of every godly husbandman. It is drawn from the Book of John’s gospel chapter 10 and verses 1 to 10. And I trust God that as you apply yourself to the demands, God will reward you with the supply of wisdom, strength and favour as the good and godly husband. Let me start by saying that as the head of your family, you are the spiritual leader of your wife and children. Also, you have been empowered by God to function as the good shepherd to your sheep and in your sheepfold. And if you will do what God commands you to do to your wife and children in the capacity as the man, husband and father, you will be blessed in all things. And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all the nations of the earth (Deuteronomy 28:1). Whatever God has asked you to do as the head of your family is to make you better and your sheep best. So, embrace His instructions.

So, what is the first covenant demand? It is found in John 10:1. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber (John 10:1). You are not a husband yet until you set the foundations right-find a wife, get the consent and blessing (goodwill) of her parents, pay her dowry and present her to the world in Church. So, if you have a woman living in your house and you have not done the right things, you are considered a thief. You may want to ask, “why am I considered a thief?” You are a thief because you did not come in through the door but climbeth up some other way. You are enjoying the services of a woman you did not pay for. However, you can quickly correct your mistake by doing what the word of God says in verse 2 of John 10.But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep (John 10:2).  So as a husband and the head of your family, the first step to becoming a good and godly husband is to set the right precedent. This is so important because if the foundation is faulty, anything that is built on it cannot stand the test of time. Some of the blessings you enjoy when you marry your wife legally are these. You access the favour of God (Proverbs18:22). Secondly, you enjoy authority. The Scripture says and I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (John 10:28). When you do the right thing, you can confidently declare God’s authority over your wife and children.
