JUST LIKE JESUS-SECURITY (3)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Nehemiah 4:15

More Scriptures: Ps.23:4, Jn.10:28, Is.21:8

Now when our enemies heard that this had become known to us and that God had brought their counsel to nothing, then we all returned to the wall, everyone to his work. (Neh.4:15)

One of the greatest assurances that your sheep would ever crave from you is security. If your wife and children are not sure of their security under your care, they will look for it elsewhere. Your wife wants to be sure that she is safe with her trust, life, emotions and future with you. She wants to be sure that she will not be humiliated by the devil, the world, sin, and your relations including your parents and siblings. The day your wife realizes that you cannot protect her against the assaults from your family members and any other person, that is the day she relocates her trust to another person. So, also it is with your child. If your child becomes unsure of his or her security with you, they will seek for it in another person or activity. As the head of the family and chief security officer of your sheep, you have a greater responsibility to ensure that their lives are safe with you.

Looking at Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband, you would appreciate the importance of providing security for your sheep. All the twelve (12) disciples had confidence in Jesus. As He led them, He ensured that nobody or circumstances hurt them. When they were pressured to pay tax and being threatened by the law officers, He gave them direction to where they could find the coin to pay the tax. When the soldiers came to arrest Him, He offered Himself and not the His disciples. The Pharisees, Sadducees and teachers of the law were unable to torment, harass the disciples. This is why Scripture has this to say. Can the bride fast when the bridegroom is with her? For as long as the groom is around, the bridegroom has no need to fast (Mk.2:19). In John chapter 10, the Bible also affirms the need for the shepherd to secure his sheep. My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (John 10:27-28). So, until your sheep are sure of their safety with you, they will seek surety outside. And this can make them to fall into the hands of another man, leading them sexual abuse and adultery.

There are two steps to take to guarantee their security. The first is to be faithful to them and stand by them. And the second is to ensure that you have self-control over your mouth, your hands and your feet as well as your entire body. You must see your sheep as your first priority, after God. You must ring fence their lives. It is your surest way to secure their trust.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, have mercy upon me for allowing my sheep to be abused and insulted by others without defending them.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from fear, intimidation and weakness.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to defend my wife and children from abuses from within and without.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ, who protects His sheep, and I walk in that light in my dealings with my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
