That you may be blameless and harmless, sons of God, without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world. Philippians 2:15
Let me begin by saying that Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husband lived a blameless life. Those who hated Him and did not like Him could not find anything against Him. He was not only faultless, He lived above board. Now, as the head of the family and the godly shepherd in your sheepfold, God expects you to be like Jesus Christ. God wants you to be blameless. And this can only be possible if you live a truthful, disciplined and honest life.
But what does it mean to be blameless? To be blameless means to be innocent. It also means to be irreproachable. As the ambassador of Christ in your sheepfold, you must not get yourself involved in actions that will bring shame to the One who sent you to lead your wife and children. Your conduct must be such that even those around you can see and testify that you are indeed a man who cannot be faulted. God demands that you live a blameless life because that is the proof that you are indeed the good and godly shepherd. In Genesis 17:1, the Scripture has this to say. When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless” (Genesis 17:1). So, you cannot afford to live a careless life. It will hurt your wife, children and also those who look up to you for mentorship.
There are three areas that you must be blameless. The first is for you to be blameless in your finances. Jesus speaking said, he that is not faithful in little, how can God commit into his hands the true riches (Matt.25:21). It is true that you are under pressure to meet the financial needs of your family. It is also a fact that you don’t want to be seen as an irresponsible man, husband and father. Notwithstanding, you must not steal, change figures or cheat your business partner or employer. God should trust you with His resources and others must also trust you with their resources. The second area is your choice of words. Are your words soothing or hurting when you spew them out to your sheep? Are you careless with your words? Can your wife and children and people around you testify that you order your words aright? The third aspect that God wants you to be blameless is in your emotions. Does your emotion run riot to the extent that when your sheep upset you, you physically abuse them? Or do you keep malice with your wife and children when they offend you?
You are the light of the world. Your life is to make the difference amongst men. You must make it count for God, your wife and children.
