JUST LIKE JESUS-DEVOTION (7)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ephesians 5:1-2

More Scriptures: Heb.12:2, Matt.6:22, Ss.7:13

Have you ever heard of the word devotion or someone who is devoted? If you have not, it is very important for you to give attention to today’s teaching. Devotion is more than service. It is all about focused commitment to a cause, assignment or task. So, a devotee is unwavering, faithful, sacrificial and dedicated. That is exactly what God expects from you to your wife, children and the tasks of being a godly man, husband and father. Be ye followers of God, as dear children, and walk in love as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour (Ephesians 5:1-2).

Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly shepherd, was devoted to the task ahead of Him. He came to save mankind from their sins. He did not allow the challenges or pressure to distract Him from His goal. He was steadfast and sacrificial. Which is why the Bible says that He despised the shame but focused on the goal that was set before Him (Heb.12:1-2). And today, mankind is enjoying a sweet fellowship with God the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. God wants you to be devoted to your sheep. He wants you to be focused on the glorious tasks of leading and influencing your sheep in His desires. God doesn’t want you to be distracted by the present challenges you are having with your sheep. He also doesn’t want your attention to be shifted to drugs, adultery or any other ungodly habits. This is why He wants you to be devoted to your sheep. If thy eyes be single, thy whole body will be full of light (Matt.6:22). The inspiration you require to see the root cause of the problems you are having with your sheep and what you must do to resolve it is in God. If you allow anything to take your attention away from your sheep, you will remain confused.

So, for you to be devoted, you must appreciate that your wife and children are God’s gifts to you, hence you must handle them with care. When you see your sheep as treasures from God, you will cherish them and protect them. And in doing so, you will continue to see their value to your life inspite of their challenges. Finally, you must engage the power and weapon of prayer. You must ask the Lord to deliver you from distractions either from within your sheepfold or outside. In Luke chapter 18 and verse 1, the Bible commands you and I to always pray….. Prayer remains the key that gives you victory over distraction. You must resist whatever and whoever wants to divert your attention from your wife and children, not even the offences, weakness and disappointments of your sheep. No matter what your wife and children have done that hurts you or discourages you, you must not allow it to overshadow the bright sides of their lives.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, have mercy upon me for not being devoted to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to focus on the bright sides of my wife and children and not on their bad sides.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome the force of distraction and keep me steadfast on my sheep and sheepfold.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Christ, who is devoted to the church, and I walk in that light in my dealings with my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
