WHAT GOD EXPECTS FROM YOU (1)

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Ezk.34:14-16

More Scriptures: Jn.10:11, Gen.13:2, Acts 10:2

I will feed them in a good pasture and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be, there shall they lie in good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord. I will seek that which was lost and bring again that which was lost and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken and will strengthen that which was sick, but I will destroy the fat and the strong. I will feed them with judgment. Ezk.34:14-16. I was in church on a Sunday service when my Greatest Teacher and Helper, the Person of the Holy Spirit, began to expand these verses of Scripture to me and how it relates to husbands. And by the grace of God, I will be sharing with every husband how we can take advantage of these demands to maintain our headship. Every husband is a shepherd ordained to oversee his sheep. A shepherd in the literal meaning is someone who has the responsibility to lead herds of cattle. The shepherd is more like the head. So, when God made you to be the head in your family, He actually wants you to function, not just as a shepherd but a good one (Jn.10:11). Circumstance, tradition of men or culture must never change the order God has created in the family fold. From the main Scripture today, the word of God gives graphic details of the demands of a good shepherd. The first is to FEED THE FLOCK. As a good shepherd, it is your primary and principal responsibility to feed your wife and children and not the other way. Your job is to ensure that you provide for their spiritual, financial, material, mental, emotional and physical needs.

It is your covenant responsibility to guide your flock through the word of God, praying with them and explaining some of the questions that bother them. You cannot and must not leave it to your wife or your pastor. You must also continually stand upon the watchtower, interceding for their lives. Furthermore, it is your covenant responsibility to work hard and be diligent in and with your work so that you can have possessions to hand over to your sheep. It is a shame and a dishonourable act for you to depend on your parents for financial and material support. God was a worker, and we all can see the fruits- creation of the firmaments, beautiful skies, oceans and seas. Abraham was a worker, and we saw the fruits in the lives of his family (Gen.13:2, Gen.24:1). In addition to material and financial provisions, you also have the responsibility to provide emotional support to your wife and children. You are in their lives to help them overcome fear, doubt, intimidation and discouragement. This demands that you affirm them rather than condemn your sheep. And by so doing, you will be building their self-confidence rather than kill it.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to feed my sheep with the right nutrients.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with all I need to know to feed my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be a good and godly shepherd to my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have decided to feed my sheep with good and godly nutrients because that is what gives value to my headship as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
