GO BEFORE THEM

I want to admit that as a husband I owe the Person of the Holy Spirit, a tremendous gratitude for teaching me what to write for every husband, including me. I submit that without Him, my calling as a husband and being an instrument to raise godly husbands would not have been possible. To Him alone be all the glory. Do you know what it means to go before? Well, let me explain with it with a typical example. When a governor or president is scheduled to visit a place, a team is sent to go ahead of his arrival. This team ensures that the place the governor or president would visit is conducive and safe and meets the expectation of important personalities. The report from this team will ultimately determine whether the governor or president would visit the place or not. As a husband, consider the Scriptural passage in Is.45:1-2. Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him, and I will loose the loins of king, to open before him the two leaved gates and the gates shall not be shut. I WILL GO BEFORE THEE…………  As a husband and the head of your family, you are ordained of God to go before your flock. You are to be in front, leading the way rather than at the back. You are to stand on the watchtower to see farther and better than your flock. Beyond providing what they will eat, drink, wear or live or education, you are the LEADER.

But you may want to ask why must I go before my wife and children. Firstly, when you take your position as a fit and proper husband in your family fold by going before them, you make the crooked path straight so that they can have a smooth sail. Secondly, when you go before them you pull down every barrier and remove every landmine that the enemy may have laid on the way for them. For instance, you don’t wait for your children to get to a marriageable age before you start preparing. You don’t wait for them to graduate from school before you start running around for employment for them. You can go ahead into their future to prepare a glorious landing for them. You also don’t wait for your wife to derail. You can go ahead to prepare her life to conform to the very image and likeness of God. Now as a husband how do you go before them? Principally, you go before them by engaging the prayer platform and by your conduct (values and virtues). Sarah’s husband, Abraham, went before Isaac, his son regarding his marital destiny by praying ahead for him (Gen.24:6-7). The values and virtues of the father of the house of Rechabites, Jonadab, went before them so that they were able to overcome the landmine of drunkenness (Jer.35:14).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to take the lead in my family fold.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to function as a faithful leader indeed in my family.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from fear, doubt and discouragement.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am going ahead of my flock to make every crooked path straight so that they will have a smooth sail in life because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
