THE MAN AT THE WATCHTOWER

Spread the love

Main Scripture: 1Tim.3:1-4

More Scriptures: 1Pet.5:8, Rom.8:6, Jn.10:29

The topic today was inspired by the Holy Spirit through one of us during the Lunch Hour Bible Study. It was established from Scriptures that every husband is a watchman and where he resides is the watchtower. And one of the take-aways from the meeting is that the watchtower is not convenient and unoccupied. This means that as the husband and the head of your family, you no longer live for yourself but for your flock, and you do this sacrificially. It is not a fun ride to be a good and godly husband. It requires courage and strength. So, that is what is unique about being a watchman. But what do I need to do to maintain my watch over my wife and children? Firstly, you must be vigilant. In 1Tim.3:2, the Scripture says, husband of one wife, VIGILANT, sober…….. Vigilance is a critical weapon of warfare that you require to be on guard over the devices of the devil. That is why if you walk through most military formations, you will observe that there is a watchtower and there is always someone standing inside it. They neither sleep nor slumber. They are always awake. That is what is expected from you- to be watchful- because 1Pet.5:8 tells us that be sober, be vigilant because your adversary, satan goes about looking for whom he will devour.

Secondly, you must be spiritual. As a husband, you are standing at a vintage position to the extent that you see farther ahead. And that is what enhances your leadership role in your family. You can sense and discern right and wrong signals and take necessary actions. To be spiritual means that your spirit man is in tune with God through the Holy Spirit, and you keep it tuned in by continually feeding it with the word of God, worship, prayers, fasting and fellowship with other godly brethren. You cannot allow the principles of the world to dictate your office as a husband and expect to reign triumphantly. It will lead you to death, physically and spiritually. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit (Rom.8:6).  There are massive attacks on the family now than ever before. Yours must not be part of the statistics. You must rise up in defence of your sheepfold. You must let the enemy know that you are in command and had been given dominion to rule and reign (Gen.1:26-28). You must also let the enemy know that God has made you a king and a priest on the earth (Rev.5:10-12). God has committed your wife and children into your hands. You must give good account of your stewardship. Therefore, declare like Jesus declared, “my Father, which gave them to me is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my hands (Jn.10:29). You are in command. You must not give the devil a space in your sheepfold.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a vigilant husband and watchman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see farther and deeper, even as I lead my flock.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every form of carnality.

FAITH CONFESSION

I stand on the watchtower sacrificially and continually to watch over my sheepfold because that is my heritage as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
