Now I pray to God that ye do no evil not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. For we can do nothing against the truth but for the truth (2Cor.13:7-8).

One of the struggles a lot of husbands go through is to come to agree with what the word of God says concerning an issue they are involved. So, you hear comments like this, “let’s leave the Bible out of this and let us face reality”. This is not the way to go if you desire to become the god and godly man, husband and father. Though some husbands claim to be Christians, but their actions defeat their Christian profession. They would rather choose the traditions of their village and their culture rather than the word of God in taking decisions that concerning their functions as the man, husband and father.

As the godly husband, you must understand that the word of God is true. It has superior value over your culture. It is also profitable. It is life everlasting. So, no matter what you think about the truth in the word of God as it speaks to your responsibilities as the man, husband and father to your sheep, you cannot fight it. It is either you accept the truth or not. But the truth from Scriptures will profit you if you allow it to influence how you think, act and respond to the matters concerning your wife and children. As the godly husband and the head of your family, you must understand that the constitution that guides your office- conduct, utterances, relationships, finances and expectations -is the Bible. From the beginning when God created the office of the husbandman (Gen.2:14-18), He had designed great plans for you. So, also if you study the Bible, you will read about husbands that excelled as good and godly husbands and by their testimony pleased the Lord because they believed the truth of the word of God. You must live above the tendencies of the human nature or the rules of man. You must accept the truth of Scriptures as the final authority in your decisions and as you relate with your wife and children and the world at large.

But what do I stand to benefit if I allow the word of God to rule my life as a husband? Firstly, it provides you error-free guidance. That is, you will never get it wrong as the leader and shepherd of your sheep. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Ps.119:105). Imagine the Spirit of God leading you in the discharge of your duty as the man, husband and father. Will you fail? No, you cannot. Secondly, the word of God illuminates your heart to see farther and better for on behalf of your sheep. The Bible says that the word shines in darkness and the darkness cannot comprehend it (Jn.1:5). If you must succeed, you must seek Him and His word.
