IN PURSUIT OF THE GOD-KIND OF LIFE

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Pet 1:13-16

More Scriptures: 1Cor.15:34, Rom.13:11, Eph.5:14

As the head of the family and the spiritual authority in your sheepfold, God wants you to be godly and He wants you to pursue godliness and righteousness in everything that you do as a man, husband and father. That is the God-kind of life. It is the life that brings honour to God and to your wife and children. God doesn’t want you to conduct yourself in a way that your sheep will be ashamed to call you their father and husband.

That is the message for you today. But how do you ensure that you have a glorious life in God for your sheep to see? The Bible passage in 1 Peter provides you the answer. So, roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear, be totally ready to receive the gift that is coming when Jesus arrives. Don’t lazily slip into those old groves of evil, doing just what you feel like doing. You didn’t know any better then; you do now. As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness. God said, “I am holy; you be holy” (1Pet.1:13-16 MSG). Looking at this Scripture, you understand the importance God places on living a holy life. God is holy and He wants you to be holy. He knows that you have the capacity to live a godly life. God knows that you can be truthful to your wife and children. He knows that you can be faithful to them. He knows that you can protect them from harm both from within and from without. That is the gift that He gave to you from the day you became the head of the family. So, you have no excuse to make for living a godless life.

But for you to live the God-kind of life, you must pursue righteousness by the word of God. The Bible says, awake, oh ye that sleepeth. Awake unto righteousness…(1Pet.15:34) You must make up your mind to live right, think right and act right in your relationship with your sheep. When you read from the Bible all that the shepherd is ordained to do for his sheep, and you don’t do it, you are a disobedient servant. God will not honour you because you are the head or pastor or bishop. He will bless you principally because you are pursuing a holy life. And that is what makes you a wise husbandman. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband, said this much. He that heareth my sayings and doeth them, I will liken him to a wise man (Jn.7:24). Now, as you live this God-kind of life in your leadership role in your sheepfold, three things will happen to you. The first is that you will be filled with joy in your heart. Secondly, you will have peace of mind  with God. Thirdly, you will earn the honour and respect of your wife and children and the favour of God.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the Spirit of holiness and righteousness.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to walk uprightly before You and my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from lies and falsehood.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take responsibility to pursue righteousness in all that I do and in my relationships with my wife and children because that is what enhances my value as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
